Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissal the plea of six states seeking to be allowed to hire director of general of state police (DGP) through their own process of selection instead of appointment by UPSC approach. The 3 -member bench comprised of CJI Ranjan Gogoi,Justice L Nagaseswara Rao,Justice Sanjay kishan Kaul , said the decision has been taken in public interest. The states had filed the application on July3,2018, backing their plea by mentioning the policing being the state matter and thus ,they solely should have power to appoint the head of police force. The apex court had emphasize their view point by directing that "all the states shall send their proposals in anticipation of the vacancies to the UPSC " prior to three months before the retirement of the current holder of the post.
